Interview #6: Sharks At Abyss

Who has ever though, South America has no or just a rare few of bands, that play the actual genres?
Well if you are one of them, you are half right.
There might be not many bands, but if there are some, they are sick!
As this band, called "Sharks At Abyss", hailing from São Paulo, Brasilia.
I actually met them on Facebook.
Sharks At Abyss, caught me up, with their great cover artwork of their already released debut album "Bite Them All". I pretty much dig sharks. The cover was proof enough for me, to give them a try.
And i was fucking worth it. The songs are sharp as the jaws of a shark!
I was thinking, how to help these guys, because they seemed to unknown and also pretty much underrated, so i decided to ask them for an interview.
They agreed and finally, here it is!

Q: How did you get the band started/what were the reasons?
A: One of the biggest reasons for us to start to take the band as a serious thing was the fact that we have the same feeling, the same intention to be recognized. Bringing a good sensation for the ones who listen to our music.

Q: Tell us about your music/sound/style.
A: As everybody does, we don't like to have a labeling. We say we have a sound on the Metalcore line, good produced instrumental parts, guitar riffs that stick on the mind, taking even to a chorus that is hard to get off mind. Is to make the one that is listening identify with the song.

Q: Where do you get your ideas, inspirations for the your music's lyrics and instruments?
A: The Lyrics are made by all members of the band, taken from lived experiences. When someone of the band passes by something outstanding, some mistake and like to show for no one to do this. At the same time that the music passes an experience, it also serves as an advice.

Q: I actually found out about you, while searching for images with sharks, coz i love them, so tell us about your band name, what does it mean, where does it come from?
A: The name "SHARKS AT ABYSS" comes from a conversation between the members of the band to decide a new name. On old times we had a name that was a little complicated to pronounce. It comes from the idea that sharks are aggressive animals, falling perfectly with our propose with the band, and the "abyss" came the same way, make that the people who listen to us take a deep experience in our sound and rescue that energy hidden inside.

Q: Which bands are your influences? / Which bands are your personal favorites?
A: There are so many bands... such as As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive, Misery Signals, and others... Everyone always try to keep opened mind to others music styles. I goes from City and Colour, Foo Fighters and Circa Survive to Whitechapel, for example. We don't get close only in one music style, it's always good to pick the essence from music that is different from ours.

Q: Do you guys have a message, which shall be said through your music?
Transmit the idea of don't making the same mistakes again, of never giving up that biggest wish. Run to our dreams.

Q: What things are coming up? Any news on new stuff, such as music, merch, and so on?
A: Actually we debuted our virtual CD "BITE THEM ALL" on Facebook. After a long road we presented one of the reasons that makes us stand every day. We will able our new merch soon, we will present the CD and we plan to make a kit for the ones who may want something special from the band.

Q: What was your sickest/best show, whats your dream venue and which band would you like to tour with and why?
A: One of the most insane shows we made has recently happened in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil with As I Lay Dying and Heaven Shall Burn. The energy that people transmitted to was is unspeakable, the good luck words from the guys of both bands gave us a fucking strength to get up on stage and make a unforgettable show for everyone that was watching us.
Both bands taught us that to make a perfect show is not enough to play exactly as the CD, exists a big production behind it to get the best sound you can, backline, lights to put a shine in the eyes of those who watch. Give energy straight to the public while we play, put a satisfaction smile after the shows ending.
Don't forgetting the August Burns Red guys, that watched us on stage, giving all support and transmitting experiences for us.

Q: Any messages left to fans, friends, family?
A: Our message is: NEVER give up on your dreams. If there's somebody trying to stop it, tell him to jump from an abyss (laugh). Because nothing is can stop someone to get into his/her biggest wish. It also depends of the strength and needing of every one. We would like to thank to our friends that gives us strength, our families that always give us hope to move on on hard times.

Thanks for the interview guys. It was really interesting for me, especially, which bands you have shared the stage with and that your personal listened bands are within a pretty large spectrum.
I regret that i haven't asked more questions, though.
Maybe i can hook you guys up for another one, or write a Review or something else for you!

Cheers.
