Review #26: Teratological Nightmare - Self Titled [EP]

Album: Self Titled [EP]
Year: 2011
Origin: USA
Genre: Brutal Death Metal/Technical Death Metal/Grindcore

Tracklist:
1. Intro
 2. Ethereal Being
 3. Mephistophelic Command
 4. Hark! The Utopia Crumbles
 5. Malanxia
 6. Phantasmagoria
 7. Reverting To Extinction

Review:

All hail brutality! This is the perfect soundtrack to your nightmares!
Teratological Nightmare are kind of a band that is not for the weak.
The band name's origin is from the Teratology, a word that seems to be an enigma for those who hear it first.
"Teratology - is the study of abnormalities of physiological development.
In other words, it is the study of birth defects".

But the music of them is anything but an enigma, these guys know what they want to do and they fulfill it to their name - a brew of hellish Brutal Technical Death Metal!
Killing low Death Metal growls accompanied with fast guitar riffs, that have a touch of good old Thrash Metal, this bands slays down their enemies with one sick song after another.
Almost every song is filled with blasting drums and the riffing is kinda rad thrashy, but well fitting to the vocals.
A great point is the low bass, that is pretty good to hear within the songs. This gives an rare sound to all of it!
An really surprising song is the fifth, entitled "Malanxia". The song is an calm interlude and a perfect opener for the hammering following song "Phantasmagoria", which is leaning back to the calm and slowness of the previous, yet keeping it fast. The song is pretty old school!

This band is a real earcandy for Death Metal fans (and also for those, who have listened a lot to it during the past, such as me)
Check out this extreme composition of bone breaking Death Metal.

Review #25: A Cripple Stole My Leg - Ribbons [EP]

Album: Ribbons [EP]
Year: 2010
Origin: Belgium
Genre: Metalcore

Tracklist:
1. It's Allright, The Leg Is Mostly Puss
2. The Carpentry Of Life
3. Less Than Life
4. As A Warrior
5. Freedom Of Speech
6. Shallow Whispers
7. Watching, Waiting And Blooming.
8. Ribbons

Review:
"Fuck fashioncore"
As it's written down on their Facebook, these guys are pretty much setting a kind of an attitude to new and upcoming bands. Though they all don't know about it yet.
This verse is the meaning of creating an own sound as musician or band, what A Cripple Stole My Leg definitely have reached! Instead of copying styles and sounds, because of favoring bands, these guys have accomplished all their creativity to come up with some really fresh and technical and pretty heavy music, leaning onto the actual metal genres, though the members also have their favorite bands and heroes.

Endorsed with an funny sounding name, ACSML have composed a heavy EP of modern metal, which can be rated as general Metalcore, but there is much more behind it, than just Metalcore.
The CD entitled "Ribbons" is a broad spectrum of technical and melodic guitar work, which sound pretty well to the Vocalists singing.
As usual for Metalcore, the voice is mainly shouted and screamed. The screams aren't too high and shouldn't be any higher and the shouts end in deeper growls at many parts of the eight songs.
Variations on the riffs keep the dullness away. The riffs aren't played too long at any part.
You'll find breakdowns in slow and fast ways and a lot of great technical and fast hooks. Great speed changes and surprising melody kick ins. Definitely a great release for every Metalcore fan.

ACSML have a name, that forces to take a listen, and the crap in the first thought will immediately change to be a fan of this great band!
A lot of fresh ideas, that are new to Metalcore and catchy songs make this a solid release!

Check out these guys!
A 100% worth it!

Listen to them now!

A Cripple Stole My Leg - As A Warrior

Stay tuned!

Review #24: With His Blood - Decrepancies

Album: Decrepations [EP]
Year: 2011
Origin: Tennessee/USA
Genre: Deathcore/Hardcore
For fans of: The Acacia Strain, Oceano, Of Salt And Swine

Tracklist:
1. Discrepancies
2. Cypridophobia
3. Antagonist
4. Burning Bridges
5. Outro

Review:
A giant breakdown!
With His Blood, from Nashville, Tennessee are going to hammer you into the ground.
Deathcore filled with Elements of Hardcore, in the manner of The Acacia Strain, but a little more filthier in the terms of the Deathcore part.
The songs are generally composed of a lot of breakdowns, and modern hardcore riffing.
Here and there some technical elements to round up the things.
With His Blood set their sound in downtempo breakdowns, that can be used for instant moshing.
The double bass keeps the speed within the breakdowns. Fast and slow to super slow, yet without big breaks as used from Chelsea Grin.
The vocals of Josh are just deep and low growls and shouts, what actually keeps the sound of their songs very brutal.
This band is definitely worth being checked out, if you are into heavy Deathcore music. Like moshing at home or on concerts and definitely for lovers of breakdown structured songs.
Additionally i am personally not the biggest fan of deathcore, but the Hardcore styled guitar works on this EP are pretty interesting. Also i'm not a fan of scene Deathcore bands, only rarely listening to them, but this band has something unique or a rarely used type of tone, which i really like and recommend to check out!

Give these guys a try and spread the fucking word for them!

Thanks ♥
Hendrik.

Review #23: Up River - Demo

Album: Demo
Artist: Up River
Year: 2011
Origin: UK
Genre: Melodic Hardcore

Tracklist:
1. Old Friends
2. The Last Lights
3. A Worthless Cause
4. Rough Ground

>> Download <<

Review:
Letting out all the feelings, after releasing the prisoner out of the cage...
This Demo is full of emotions and surely comes from the heart.
Up River, an upcoming act in the Melodic Hardcore scene, unleashes so much energy and potential, unbelievable for a Demotape!
Four songs, running about 12 minutes, that are able to carry away and lead into thinking.
Very clear voice, while screaming out everything from the heart, this is how Alex' vocals are sounding like.
Calm passages and fast build ups are keeping the interest in listening through all the songs.
Hardcore and punk in a very melodic way, for fans of bands, such as Defeater, More Than Life or Modern Life Is War, just to name some more known bands.
In my opinion, these songs are addictive and while having the 4 songs on repeat, they are not getting boring after listening a fourth or fifth time to them. Pretty impressing
Another great point to add is, that these guys are lyrically bringing some dramatic, yet up pushing songs!
Music that comes from the heart!

Check them out!

Review #22: Last Remains - The False Concept Of Life

Genre: Metalcore/Deathcore

Tracklist:
1. Introduction
2. Sinless War

Review:
Brutal Bulgarian Bonebreaker Band!
"The False Concept Of Life", the first release of Last Remains, is a very good example of the existence of good modern metal genres within the area of Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and so on.
A first listen to the band, might sound like normal Deathcore, as known from before, but exactly this is the mistake, most people do - listening to a few seconds of a song and then decide if they like it or not.
"The False Concept Of Life" keeps it heavy and brutal from the first second on, straight to the end of track ten.
A brew with a concept behind. The listeners get a heavy load of breakdown based riffs into their ears and after a few listens, they will find out a positive message within the lyrics.
Actually the album contains a lot of surprising moments, which are pretty unexpected for the band, if you don't know them.
As said, the basement riffing contains a lot of breakdowns, which should be at least one positive aspect for breakdown and Deathcore fans.
The riffing is often and mostly followed by a great double bass line, and as usual the tempo is from fast to slow. The riffs are long enough to keep bang the head, without getting of the timing!
Also the album contains a lot of elements, which are usual for the Metalcore genre.
Fast tremolo/speed picking riffs, melodic and simple, yet elegantly placed between the heavy breakdowns.
Another piece that has to be attracted, there are a lot of untypical and original licks between the riffs, kinda melodic and kinda "celestial". Hardcore riffs for moshpits are also included!

Vocally the band keeps it simple with deep and heavy growls. Aggressive screams, yet not high, but well fitting to the music. And at some points there are some quite parts with clean voice waiting.

My conclusion:
For a band of their area definitely one of the best. This album contains a lot of breakdowns, which aren't only chugs, they are moving between two genres. There will be some Metalcore-Breakdowns and also a lot of Deathcore-Breakdowns.
Last Remains show, that they are brutal enough, to conquer your attention, if you are into heavy music, that is able to blast away the neighborhood. These guys aren't a band just for teens and scenes, they play modern genres and keep it metal. For those who dig Death Metal, this album will also be worth at least a listen!
I would recommend to read the interview i did with these guys too, to learn a bit about them. These guys are a hardworking band, that cares a lot about nice and good reputation and is also there for a talk. Leave them a comment if you visit them at Facebook!

Check them out!

Review #21: A Vital Message - Distances [EP]

 Album: Distances [EP]
Year: 2011
Origin: Florida/USA
Genre: Metalcore/Post-Hardcore
For fans of: Legacy, August Burns Red, Woe Is Me, Memphis May Fire

Tracklist:
1. The Blind
2. 2009
3. Who You Are
4. It's Legal, If It's On Camera

>> Download <<

Review:
Kickstarter band straight into the skies!
As there are nearly too many bands around, playing Metalcore or Post-Hardcore, many bands sound similar or even same. A Vital Message are a band that truly sound different.
They worked pretty hard on this first EP.
An original sound is definitely there, also pretty catchy riffing.
Starting on the vocals, these guys bring out a clean voice that is really memorizing.
Especially the chorus part in the third song entitled "Who You Are".
The guitar work is pretty technical, yet they kept it sounding like simple riffing.
Typical chord strums and breakdowns keep the rhythm through all tracks. Sophisticating short sweeps and other tricky guitar parts in the songs, make this short yet effective EP a total earcatcher.
Melodies during choruses and breakdowns as usual for the genre bring some variety also.

My conclusion, definitely worth at least being checked out. If you are into that genre, you will totally dig this stuff! For a newcomer bands these guys have put a lot of time into this and the result can really be shown to the people out there! Such a great effort. Be nice and check these guys out and show some love!
I recommend checking out their song "Who You Are", because it's addictive! At my first listen to the chorus i got stoked, whats behind all their other songs. I really like these guys and finally there is another band sounding different, but also leaning to the scene, so everyone can enjoy their efforts!

Thanks a lot for your attention guys!

Hendrik. ♥

Interview #14: Oh, Manhattan

Obviously Post-Hardcore is more then i have thought it is.
This band came into my life and to my luck, i got a new perspective to this genre. Finally i know, that Post-Hardcore is more then just the sceneshit i know, beside some really good bands, where this band definitely is settled to.
Thanks to Oh, Manhattan!

What moved you guys to start this band?
Kodi: It feels like hair metal is reproducing itself in a different form. I, personally was starving for something a little more edgy.
Hance: I actually joined the band after it was formed.. I joined for the reasons that Kodi said. I wanted to play music that stood out just a little.

You're profile says, you guys are playing Post-Hardcore, in my opinion a really melodic and catchy kind of it. Explain your sound a little bit.
Kodi: Post Hardcore has adopted so many different definitions these days. It's gotten so broad that some would consider Attack Attack! to be post hardcore, whereas bands like Glassjaw and At The Drive in would be more fitting.
Hance: We try not not to think about labeling our sound under one specific genre. Not trying to make ourselves sound like elitist pricks or whatever, it's just less stressful when we don't claim one particular genre.

What influences your sound? Any bands?
Kodi: Mostly movies.. but I do enjoy listening to a lot of old indie stuff.
Hance: Well just from a vocal standpoint, I am influenced a lot by Spencer Chamberlain from Underoath. But I listen to a pretty broad spectrum of music. I'm also influenced a lot by my
family and friends and situations that arise in life.

Do you guys think Post-Hardcore defines you guys the most? If yes, explain why. You can also tell us what genres you would also bring together with your band.
Kodi: Yeah, as we played a good bit around the local scene, a lot of our friends seemed to think that Post-Hardcore was a good label for us to fall under. Really though, we just like to play catchy, but heavy music.
Hance: Agreed.

What does your band name mean? Do you guys complain it to something special?
Kodi: The name Oh, Manhattan is a reference to The Manhattan Project, which led to the building of the first atomic bomb. At the time, our old vocalist and I were very consumed by the entire Manhattan Project and all of the people that were brought in to be a part of it.
Hance: Our band explores a lot of different and weird concepts. A lot of our lyrics are about spiritual and emotional struggles, with some political stuff mixed in there along the way. But we never wanna tell anyone which side is wrong or right.. we just present situations in their raw form.. kinda saying: it is what it is, and it's up to you to decide what how you wanna approach it.

Is your guys' sound the one you wanted to play, at the point you started the band?
Kodi: I rarely notice that kind of stuff haha, it's more like a progression, you start with a guitar and a drum set just goofing around, then you find a style you cling to and it goes from there.
Hance: I agree. And our sound will probably progress more as time goes on. So it's hard to say really.

Do you guys spread a message with your music? If yes, tell us, if not just tell why you guys are making music.
Kodi: I believe our purpose is to dismantle what is popular now and create a new curve on which the endless cycle of music will repeat itself upon. I want future generations to be able to look back on our era and say, "oh, manhattan, ya that band was awesome," like i do with my favorite bands growing up and presently like Brand New, Bright Eyes, the Cure and Everytime I Die.

I'm really interested in what bands influence the single members, so what are your favorite bands. In personal or inside the whole band.
Kodi: Lol I think i have listed most of them throughout the interview! But ya Stray From The Path, Brand New, La Dispute, Copeland, At The Drive In, Comeback Kid, Deathcab for Cutie, Every Time I Die, etc.
Hance: Underoath, Brand New, Blindside, Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday.. I also really like a few metal bands like The Acacia Strain and For Today.

What are your lyrics generally about, and where do you get your inspirations?
Kodi: Mostly from movies we had seen or from personal investigations like supernatural vs. super scientific. The id and the inner struggle to determine the natural state of yourself and seeing what moral values stay in tact with the absence of consequence and it truly becomes spiritual warfare.

What are your interests beside the band?
We all do a ton of stuff. Personally, I am involved in the music industry and do booking/promotions and Hance and I do a lot of graphic design work. All of us have
odd jobs outside the band so we can make some money while we're at home.

What things are coming up from you? News about new releases or merch?
September 27, 2011 our debut album drops and we are all STOKED for that. it's been a looong time coming. We will also be posting new tour dates and new merch releases on our Facebook over the next month.

Tell us which bands, shared the stage with you.
Oh, we've played with a ton of cool bands: A Skylit Drive, Woe,Is Me, From First To Last, ISMFOF, Asking Alexandria, Kills N' Thrills, Attila, Thrash n Burn tour, etc..

Would you like to suggest some bands, i should check out? Or just suggest me to your friends, haha :)
Baby, Baby

Where was your sickest show?
Kodi: I'd say playing with A skylit drive and woe, is me in Atlanta. That show was packed out and all the bands were cool guys.
Hance: As far as crowds.. I'd say the same as Kodi. But personally, my favorite show was the first show that I ever played with the band, at a favorite venue of mine called The Movement Venue. There's something fun about playing for people you know.. most of the time ;)

Which bands would you love to tour with?
Stray From the Path, Glassjaw, Thrice, Coheed.

Any messages left to fans, friends or family?
WE LOVE ALL YOU GUYS! and we can't wait to see what's next.

Thanks for refreshing my perspective to Post-Hardcore! Your music finally gave me new thoughts on it!
It's not just the winy crap. It can also be hard as metal!
Also a big thanks for the interview with you guys!

So if anyone of you would like to check out some Post-Hardcore, which finally has such a different sound then a lot of most bands i've heard, then check out The Anti-Da Vinci, i mean check out Oh, Manhattan!!!
Seriously, just do it!

Review #20: Rose Maylie - Ambitions [EP]

Album: Ambitions [EP]
Artist: Rose Maylie
Year: 2011
Origin: Indiana/USA
Genre: Metalcore
For fans of: Amarna Reign, Along Came A Spider, Destroy The Runner, Tides Of Virtue

Tracklist:
1. Provisions
2. Convictions
3. Relinquish
4. Ambitions
5. Disheartening
6. Solace

Review:

Old Metalcore is still alive!
As too many bands jump over into some groovy Djent Metalcore, or just create chugriff songs or even mix up their Genre, there are still some newcomer bands, who play the good old Metalcore, as everything began, such as in the beginning of As I Lay Dying.

Rose Maylie, probably one band, that should be taken as archetype of Metalcore!
A typical name for a good Metalcore band is always mysterious. Rose Maylie, named to the character Rose Fleming Maylie from Charles Dickens' novel 'Oliver Twist'.
These guys actually come up with a pretty refreshing style, that remains to the good old times where Metalcore was new and unexplored.
Catchy riffs, less breakdowns.
Fast alternate picking parts and typical Metalcore riffs, brought together, as i haven't heard them for quite a while.
A pretty good job on the vocals. Straight and aggressive growls and screams, which are still understandable. Here and there is a clean part coming up.
Musically Rose Maylie deliver a good sound, yet it's similar to many bands.
In my opinion these guys deserve some good reputation, for being one of the less bands of the genre, who aren't actually mixing up the style. They play their own thing and do it pretty well!

Their EP "Ambitions" is available on iTunes! (Didn't find the link)

Take a listen to them:

Rose Maylie - Ambitions

Check them out if you are a fan of Metalcore, in the way it was before some years!
Seriously!

Interview #13: Vicious Betrayal

Another new band i interviewed for you!
These guys from Bulgaria, play a modern mixture of Deathcore, Metalcore and Hardcore!
Check out Vicious Betrayal

Where do you come from? Who are you? Tell us about you!
- We are from Shumen, Bulgaria . We are just some guys who love to listen and play metal .
The band was formed in late November 2010 and is looking forward playing more shows and to get more fans.
The idea was just to create a band and play heavy melodic and nice stuff .

What music do you make? And what makes your sound, being your sound?
- Our music is heavy, melodic and for us is very nice .
What we are playing is what we are!

Which genre would explain your sound?
 - Well, we would say Metalcore/Hardcore , heavy and nice shit .

Tell us what you are currently doing, in reference to your music. Any upcoming albums, ep, songs, new merch?
- We are working on our songs and we're recording them and eventually we'll release an EP soon .No merch for now.

What does your band name mean, to you and to others, and where does it come from?
- Vicious Betrayal. We think that the name kinda says it all.We relate the name to reality.Every member of the band has been betrayed in some way.
That's how the name came.

Which bands are your influences? / Which bands are your personal favorites?
- We like many bands and they have big influence on us.Bands like Parkway drive, Lamb of god, Escape the fate, Children of Bodom, Suicide Silence and many many more.

Do you guys have a message, which shall be said through your music?
- Our lyrics are based on true stories and some of them are kinda fictive. So we don't think there is a exact message.

What was your sickest/best show, whats your dream venue and which band would you like to tour with and why?
- We haven't had much shows and all of them were awesome. Dream venues: Download,Rock am Ring,Big day out and more. Our dream bands to tour with are Parkway drive, Lamb of god, As I lay dying... pretty much the bands we like.

- Stay tuned for recorded songs, video clips of live shows, and hopefully soon an EP album.
We would like to say a big thanks to FORTHELIONS for this interview.
Cheers, Vicious Betrayal : )

Thanks for taking the time for me and my stuff dudes! You are great!
Be sure to check these guys out! These guys, may have a raw sound, but this is just the proof that they are working with originality! This should be something for every metal lover!
Cheers!

Interview #12: Voices

It's always a great pleasure to meet new bands from the favorite genre.
Actually these guys released their first EP and a friend suggested them to me.
I totally dig their stuff and i would like to share a great band with all of you!
They really have talent.
So here's my interview with them, a great way to learn about bands in my opinion!

Check out Voices!

How did the band get started? What are the reasons?
Jake: Voices formed from the remaining members of a local band out of Birmingham, AL. For the most part we already had everything together and knew what we wanted this band to sound like.

How would you describe your sound?
Jake: When I was writing the EP, I wanted a more aggressive, melodic, and fast sound than we had before. So I would like to say that our sound is aggressive, melodic, and fast, and I hope it came across as so in the EP.

Are there bands that influenced your sound?
Jake: Absolutely. Life In Your Way and Shai Hulud were 2 bands I was listening
to a lot at the time. I wouldn't say we sound anything like either of those bands, but
I think fans of both bands can enjoy our music.

What does your band name mean? Who came up with the idea for it?
Toots: I came up with the name “Voices” to let people draw their own meanings relating to their life in a personal way. It struck me as a term that could explain the multiple “voices” in this world either bringing you down or lifting and holding you up! This also ties into the album, “Anchors”, which stands for the people holding you down. Following the right voices will lead you to the right path, with religion, faith, and love.

Which genre defines your band the most?
Jake: I'm not too big on defining music with too specific genres, but I would say Melodic Hardcore is a pretty general way of describing it.

Did you know what kind of music you wanted to play before starting the band?
Case: We all had a basic idea of what kind of music we wanted to play. Jake, our guitarist really wrote most of the music, and I threw in my two sense about how I wanted the drums to sound. We wanted to keep the post-hardcore heaviness, along with the melodic-hardcore, so we could have more depth.

What do you want to say with your music? Is there a message to the listeners?
Case: The band is a positively influenced band. We adore our fans, and we adore our neighbor bands. Our message basically tells you to not give up. Have faith in something, whether it’s in religion, or whether it’s just a dream you’ve always had. Be passionate about something.

What are your favorite bands?
Jake: Brand New, Bayside, and Bad Religion. Lately I've been listening to Balance and Composure, Joyce Manor, The Wonder Years, and Hostage Calm.
Case: I listen to a lot of lighter bands like Saosin, Taking Back Sunday, Amberlin, Bayside, etc. I also listen to a lot of crappy “scenester” music, sue me.
Toots: Listener, Take it Back, Fireworks, and of course The Wonder Years!!

Where do you get your inspirations, beside from other bands, especially for your lyrics?
Jake: Things I go through daily, things I see in the world around me, and people I see day to day.

What are your interests beside the band? Do you guys just do the band or do you work/go to school/study?
Case: I’m actually going to be a senior in Highschool this year. We plan on hitting it hard right when I get out of school, so for now, we write as much as possible, and play local shows. I also have a part time job to help pay for equipment and gas.
Toots: The band is my main priority. I plan to go to school eventually to pursue a career in the arts. In the meantime, I plan to travel as much as possible!
Jake: I'm not in school at the moment. I don't really do much outside of the band. Just hanging out with friends and keeping busy any way I can.

What things are coming up? News about new releases, new merch, line up changes?
Case: We do this with all the intentions of being a signed, touring act. The work that has to be put forth to do this is tremendous, but it's something we are all passionate about. We also will be hitting the studio at 456 Recordings W/ Brian Hood to add two more tracks to our EP: Anchors.

Has anyone played in other bands before?
Case: I played in a local band W/ Josh D.(Guitar) called A Path Less Traveled for about two years before we broke up.
Jake: I've played in a Punk band called Arsenic Rouge, a metal band called Oh Clarity, and Buckshore before Voices. I also currently do vocals in a Pop Punk band called Hangman.

Are there any bands you would like to see on this page in the future? Are there bands you would recommend me to take a listen to?
Toots: Alabama rep to Aim for the Day and Gideon

What was your sickest show?
Jake: Our EP release show was pretty sick. Our drummers old band's reunion show was equally sick, and we played with Attila back in December, and that was probably our biggest crowd.

Which bands would you like to tour with and how would your favorite tour look like?
Jake: I would love to tour with The Ghost Inside. Those dudes are so down to earth and I enjoy their music a lot. Oh and Bayside.

Any messages left to fans, friends or family?
Case: We have seen a lot of support as of late, and we can’t explain to you how much we appreciate it. We will talk to anyone, whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter, or in person. Come talk to us.
Jake: Don't dwell on things that bring you down. There's always a bright side.
Toots: Thanks to anyone that has ever supported us in anyway. Thank you to the lovers and haters for always making it interesting for us. Keep promoting us, we need all the help we can get. Remember to lead your life in the right direction to end up further than you ever though was possible! Follow your dreams to the fullest!

Promotion #14: Vicious Betrayal

Origin: Bulgaria
Genre: Metalcore/Deathcore/Hardcore

Vicious is the most fitting word to this bands' music.
Vicious Betrayal from Bulgaria play a raw mix of Metalcore and Deathcore.
Yet the production of their music is still a bit raw, this band shows a lot energy.
Combining breakdowns and mosh riffs with classic scream and growl vocals, deposited with some gutteral growls.
Vicious Betrayal play heavy and fast music. Thats what i can say to these guys.
These guys are hard working on their music and from my knowledge they give their beset efforts into their band!
The love to music is all that counts, and i can really hear this in them!

Suggest these guys to everyone and spread the word. One of the rare bands from bulgaria.

Listen to their songs on Facebook! I recommend the song "You Think This Is War". They finally uploaded a new song today, entitled "Breakdown".

Stay  tuned!

Interview #11: Still Dreaming

A band, which is coming back from their hiatus is a reason, that the love to music never dies!
These guys actually regrouped and are back to show all their energy again.
For the fans, friends and families. These guys really deserve respect and your support!

How did you guys get the band started? What where the reasons?
- We started the band in June 2009. We were all keen music lovers that wanted to write the music that we enjoy listening to. We got together for a practice 1 day and clicked as musicians. We'd played in a few other bands before.

You finally rebuild this band after parting ways. What was the reason for this?
- Well we never broke up, we deemed it as a hiatus. Our original drummer Remi moved over 100 miles away, leaving it impossible for us to work together as a band, the last show we played was Hevy Festival august '10. Myself [Jay] and Aidan were always keen to kick it back up again. Eventually we found 3 motivated bundles of joy that wanted a slice of the band, so we now have a new line up and are back.

How would you describe your sound?
- Very hard to describe. SD is like a slab of various music genres - there isn't 1 that we stick to and there isn't 1 that we try to avoid. Previous songs have a bit of chug with some pretty melodies over the top. We have intentionally raw vocals which are there to emphasize the passion of the lyrics. All guitars and bass on previous tracks were written and recorded by myself, Aidan and Remi did the rest. [We had several stand in bassists].

Which bands have been an influence to your sound?
- All the contemporary melodic bands have influenced the more twiddly parts, however we also take influence [although don't sound like] from bands such as Taken, [early] Poision The Well & Shai Hulud.

Tell us, how the idea for your band name came and whats behind it.
- Still Dreaming has a positive feel to it. If you're familar with the american hardcore band 'Horizons', they have a song named it. Not to mention the song is fantastic, the name kinda stuck in my head. Our artwork reflected the name with a small girl at the bottom of some large stairs going into the clouds. I am a strong believer in the term 'never give up on your dream', regardless of what it is, it's yours for the taking.

Which genre would define your band the most?
- Now a lot of people slap the 'hardcore' genre on us, when really, we don't actually have many hardcore elements in our older stuff at all. I think this tag was put on us because of the area we are from where we have an scene of hardcore bands. I've alway struggled to define it with a genre, i use the term 'progressive' a lot but we're no Pink Floyd.

Do you guys have known what kind of music you want to play, before starting the band?
- We had an idea. We knew we wanted it melodic, which we achieved - the rest came to us there and then. We would write songs out of nothing. There are about 4 songs we wrote that we never recorded. Some riffs will be recycled however.

Do you guys have a message, you want to spread with your lyrics or music? If yes, tell us about it.
- If anything, it would be honesty. We play what we love, we don't play something because it's cool. On a personal level, i tend to get a bit of stick because i don't 'lose my mind' when performing, but i feel the music in my own way, if i 'lost my mind' - that wouldn't be me. Lyric wise, Aidan writes about journeys in life, anything from teen angst to deaths in the family - he does it well.

What are your favorite bands?
- This list could be ridiculously long. As a band - It Prevails, Counterparts, Hundredth, Pianos Become The Teeth, Transit, Mineral, Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Trenches, Mono. Oh and MAD love for Like Trumpets - they need to write more.

Your song "Still Dreaming" has guest vocals from It Prevails' vocalist Ian Fike. How came it to this?
- Basically, outside of the band, i put on shows. I was lucky enough to be putting on It Prevails first show in the UK. As a favour from Ian, i asked if he'd be down with slamming some lines down. He was and it ruled. We are eternally grateful for this. I was overwhelmed by the fact they told me it was the best show they've ever played too. I put them on 3 times on that tour.

Where do you get your inspirations, especially for the lyrics?
- As mentioned before, journeys in life, but we are inspired as a band by our local music scene. Kent, UK, has one of the most communal music scenes around, the people in it just don't realise that yet. There are always shows, everyone knows each other - of course there are the people that try to spoil things and fight, they suck and always will.

What are your interests beside the band? Do you guys just do the band or do you work/go to school/study?
- We all work besides Joe who studies music and photography at uni. I am a department manager in a toy store, Ian records bands [and is shit hot at it], matt is pretty much a handy man and aidan is a waiter! Busy boys!

What things are coming up? Any news about new releases, new merch, line up changes? Any concerts or a tour planned?
- We are [fingers crossed] doing a split with a fantastic band from the UK. That will be aimed for September/October time.

As stated above, we have a new line up - we have Ian Sadler on Bass, Matt Burridge on 2nd guitar and Joe Stokes on drums. We have written some new stuff and it may intrigue you.

Merch is being designed literally right now, something we never got round to doing first time round!

We will also be announcing our first show back soon, with one of our favourite bands...

Do you guys have played in other bands before?
- We all play in other bands currently! Check out Roots, Chronos, Call Off The Search and Matt used to play in Blind Ambitions [who we love dearly].

 What was your sickest show?
- When It Prevails flew over for their tour, they had a day to spare before the first show. We weren't ready to play a show at this time, but i put together a practice room show [videos on youtube], we played in a hot as fuck room to it prevails, through solace and santa karla. We sucked, but that show was insanely fun. Something we had to do.

Which bands would you like to tour with and how would your favorite tour look like?
- We would love to tour with our friends in Heart In Hand, Polar, This Distance & Spires. But ideally... bring back Taken and let us tour with those!

Any messages left to fans, friends or family?
- To our fans, new or old, thank you for all the kind words since the start, we don't mind the bad either - we know we're not the best. I like to think we all love our families & to our friends - please like our band :(

A fucking big thanks to Still Dreaming. I know these guys quite a while now, and their music was never disappointing me in anyway. It's more like the opposite, their songs making me feeling better in my bad times. Actually one of these bands who touched my heart with "heavy" music! Thats pretty rare, as their music is!
I can only recommend listening to them, visit their shows and hang with them, they are so nice guys!

These guys from Ukraine definitely make it!
Own sound, that couldn't be more interesting.
When starting to listen to their song "My Hope In The Deep Ocean", you could thing of some Emmure crap. But this is really more of that. It would be a shame to compare these guys with Emmure.
Massive growls sharing the path with some fresh electric riffs, accompanied from some well fitting clear vocals!
Such a sound is pretty rare to find in this area. I can only recommend, keeping an eye out on this band!

Interview #10: Legacy

A band with so much potential, a real big fan base, yet unsigned, enough time to entertain and talk to the fans, while working on their debut album, really can call it self a Legacy! These guys will surely be a shining star in the heaven of hard music!
Check out my dudes from Legacy!

So you guys are going to be a legacy? Tell us whats behind the name?
- Honestly, i wish we had a good story for it, but we just kind of came across the word "Legacy" and it fit what we were going for with this band. We want to create our own "legacy"

How would you guys describe your sound, since it's pretty unique?
- Our sound is a little unique, we just take a lot of bit and pieces of sounds that other bands that are doing well and make it our own.

Where do you get inspirations? What influenced the band and what does it the most?
- Our inspiration is really simple, we want to do what we love and want to make friends along the way.

Which genre would define the band the most?
- I guess we would lean towards metal.

What are your lyrics about? Tell us what moves you to write lyrics?
- Our lyrics are about life lessons and stories, something almost everyone can relate to.

Do you guys have a motto or anything you stand for? Straight edge maybe?
- I guess we don't really have a "motto" but we like to call ourselves a "Fans Band" We want to meet every single one of our fans and just hang out.

What do you guys think about scenes or about stereotype thinking?
- We really hate stereotyping, we want our music to be something everyone and anyone can listen to.

Do you guys have known, what kind of music you will or want to play before starting the band?
- We just really wanted to play something up beat and catchy. Something that we will enjoy playing day in and day out.

Tell us if there is a message in the music, that you want to express to the listeners.
- Were a pretty positive band, and no matter how much crap you may go through or people talk down on you, push through everything and prove everyone wrong. No one can stop you except yourself.

What are your personal favorite bands? What kinds of music do you listen to?
- We listen to so much different stuff. Really anything ranging from our friends in The Plot In You, to Skrillex, Decoder, As I Lay Dying, to even Panic At The Disco and 30 Seconds to Mars.

Are some of the bands also influencing your band?
- I guess you can say August Burns Red, Parkway Drive and Bring Me The Horizon.

What are your interests beside the band? What do you do beside it?
- We are really big into sports believe it or not. During practices we go out and play a couple games of basketball. I think sometimes we are more into the basketball than the band. haha

What things are coming up? News about new releases, new merch, line up changes?
- Well, we just confirmed a short 10 day run with Ace Augustine in August and we have a tour lined up that i cannot release in October-November. We do have a line up change that we will be releasing here soon and we have some new music on the way.

Do you guys have played in other bands before?
- We have all played in various local bands around Toledo.

Which bands would you recommend for taking a listen to?
- Check out our boys in The Plot In You, Legion, A Bullet For Pretty Boy and Ludlow Falls.

What was your sickest show?
-I would have to say The Jamboree in Toledo. It was so nice seeing 800+ kids from our home town throwing down and singing all the words to our songs.

Which bands do you want to share the stage with?
- We would all like to share the stage with so many bands, but bigger names, probably Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red and Miss May I.

Which bands would you like to tour with and how would your favorite tour look like?
- thats a tufty, so many different bands we could tour with. But i think the ultimate tour would be an all Ohio band tour with us, The Devil Wears Prada, Miss May I, Attack Attack, Like Moths To Flames, The Plot In You & The Crimson Armada.

Any messages left to fans, friends or family?
- Thanks so much for all the support thus far, it really means a ton. We cant wait to start touring heavy starting this Fall and early next year. Keep on the lookout for new tour dates and also some other news that is in the works.

Thanks a lot to the guys from Legacy, for taking the time and answering so quickly on this.
They are actually working on the songs for their debut album, coming up in future!
Also they really need your help! You can donate them money HERE, to help them out with the work in the studio and to fund their first official US-Tour!

10. The Boston Tea Party
11. Beat It (Michael Jackson Cover)

Review
"I've never heart something like this before!"
Jameson, should have been much bigger then now.
Offering a unique sound, with putting together so many types of metal , without sounding experimental.
These guys really bring back good old Heavy Metal. More of that, they should be the bringers of metal.
But actually these guys are more then just a Heavy Metal band...
Jameson sound is heavy. Influenced by the modern and the old metalscene, these guys combine the time line perfectly.
"Down For The Count", the debut album, released in 2008 is a big step forward to many bands in this time.
You'll find a lot of hardcore riffing, breakdowns and a bunch of great guitar solos.
A lot of riffs to bang the head, one heavier then the other keeps the album being the entertainment system for a whole evening. The vocals of their singer Matt lean on a mixture of sick skirling and gnarly serious screaming. Chimaira's singer could be envy to this guy!
A big highlight are the guitar solos of "Get To The Choppah" and "Rocktimus Prime", which both are pulled into the length. This is pretty impressing. Also the last track, the Michael Jackson Cover is a great tribute to the King Of Pop. These guys master it, writing a nearly own composition of the song "Beat It". They truly beat it. The song is impressing and memorable, also it is recognizable to the original.
These guys truly have their own sound, associated with Hardcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, and with groovy and heavy luster. For an unsigned band, a band, whose sound remains in the head. Also funny titled songs, make this a great cd.
Another important point, what has to be said, is that the solos start calm and get longer and heavier, also the calm moments on this cd are perfectly positioned.
I ma normally not so much into metal, but this cd is full of haunting moments and melodies.
You have to check these guys out!
Seriously!

Review #18: Drown My Day - Forgotten [EP] + Download

Album: Forgotten [EP]
Artist: Drown My Day
Year: 2010
Origin: Poland
Genre: Progressive Deathcore

1. Intro
2. Nobody Fucks
3. Interlude
4. Forgotten But Not Forgiven
5. Feel Poisoned
6. Tear The Flesh

>> Download <<

Review:
Music that gives you the killerfeeling!
Drown My Day are definitely a badn to keep an eye on in the future.
They have had a great start with their first EP. In 2010 they released their second EP entitled "Forgotten" .
This could truly be the soundtrack to a killing spree.
Drown My Day actually have a big fanbase within Poland, but also got mentioned on sites from the United States too.

Forgotten offers Drown My Days fully expanded sound.
Fast and aggressive Deathcore with a lot of catchy parts such as the sweep intro of the song "Forgotten But Not Forgiven".
Deep growls and murderous screams combined with double bass drum lines leading into breakdowns that give you the feeling of stabbing your enemies eyes out.
Another great highlight is the refrain of song six "Tear The Flesh". The words gonna blow out brains and they stuck in the head for quite a while. To cap it all off, these guys put in some nice electric effects.
Overall this release has so much power and it is just a great Death Metal EP. Too bad that this isn't a album. More songs could really round it off.

In my opinion, Drown My Day have a pretty original style. Their vocals aren't as every Deathcore band, they artfully use deep voices and combine it with a not too high throat. Also there are riffs, that are similar to many bands, so probably nothing for haters of similarity within bands. But these guys cleverly put in their sound into these similarities, which make this a unique cd. Definitely worth a listen. For those who like their Deathcore a bot more technical and artistic and also for those, who like their Death Metal more modern!

Spread the word for these dudes!

Interview #9: Last Remains

Bulgaria also has a metalscene. And its good as the rest of the world's. Yet it's unknown, there are some really talented artists though. I found out about Last Remains, a heavy band, playing something between Metalcore and Deathcore. They keep it metal and the have fun at it!
I pretty like these dudes and i really want to share them with all of you, so check out my interview with them.

Q: What were the reasons, for getting the band started?
A: We were young and didn't know what we were doing. It was a joke in the beginning, but an year later it was something serious. And now we are almost ready with our debut album to hit the stores and decimate the world.

Q: Describe your sound to us.
A: Our sound is something like a crossover of deathcore/metalcore and some death/thrash elements in the songs. We have a lot of breakdowns and less riffs, but the song structures are not boring and stupid.

Q: Are there bands that influenced your sound?
A: Yeah, most of them are american bands, we all have different tastes in music and we put a lot of different stuff. Our vocalist is the metalwikipedia, but anyways we have some common taste in music - like Impending Doom, Whitechapel, The Acacia Strain and some other death metal bands, but our fans say that we have different genres in our song structures.

Q: How came the ideas for your band name. Is there a reason for it?
A: Well, this is a though question, but we think the answer is - Last Remains means something for each and other fan or even human being, every listener can define it in his meaning, but we define it as the last remains needed for the end of a object or structure to be perfect.

Q: Which genre would your band define the most?
A: Modern Deathcore with some metal riffs. But in the joke meaning - Brutal Beatdown Deathcore with Not-so-melodic Metalcore.

Q: Have you known what kind of music you want to play, before starting the band?
A: No, that was even more cool, because we were bringing all kinds of riffs from different genres. In the beginning it was something like "thrash metal and death metal and breakdowns, but not like Dying Fetus, something like Killswitch Engage and Metallica introduce breakdowns with their riffs"

Q: Do you have a message within your music/lyrics?
A: Oh, yeah our vocalist has a strange opinion, and he is writing for all kinds of stuff, but it has meaning in his lyrics -anti-political, anti-religious(but he's a believer, but he is anti- organized religion), for hope in this world and for redemption if there is a bad thing going on.

Q: What are your favorite bands?
A: Let's make it easy and say that we love modern metal bands, without the gay stuff like Design The Skyline and all Electronic gay shit happening. But we listen to Dubstep.

Q: Where do you get your inspirations, beside to other bands, especially for the lyrics?
A: Amm, problems in our country and seeing what's wrong and people not seeing it.

Q: What are your interests beside the band? Do you guys just do the band or do you work/go to school/study?
A: Yes, some of us have finished school since last year, and some of us are working but Fridays and Sundays are days for rehearsals. We have interests in drinking beer with friends, going to concerts for local bands and making new music, lolz.

Q: What things are coming up? News about new releases, new merch, line up changes?
A: Our Debut Album " The False Concept Of Life" is gonna be ready any time soon, and fans be prepared for some rough shit.

Q:What was your sickest show?
A: All of them are sick, but the last show in Razgrad was big and people were like "Yo, Last Remains rule"

Q: Which bands would you like to tour with and how would your favorite tour look like?
A: Our tour which we want to live out is - Impending Doom, Whitechapel, Demon Hunter, Killswitch Engage and Last Remains, but it's not necessary to be headliners.

Q: Any messages left to fans, friends or family?
A: Yo, take care, do whatever is right, have faith and hope and buy our album when it's out !
We would like to thank FORTHELIONS for giving us the chance to express ourselves in this interview, and Cheers to all the drinkers and non-drinkers.

From me to Last Remains also a big thanks!
I can only recommend to be open minded to any unsigned or unknown band from any country on earth! You should really give them a try! The bands who care about fans, are the only ones, who are worth to be listened to! Money is a side aspect! So check these guys out!

Cheers.
