Interview #5: White Fields

Who has ever had the chance to meet a band, who cares about their fans, the passion to music and the fun behind being in a band?
Today's music industry is full of good bands, but most of them just care about having much likes on Facebook or getting money and selling stuff.
White Fields from Germany are one of the bands, who actually share love to their fans. They live from it. The music is great. Especially this band's lyrics helped me to get over heartache!
This is wonderful.
So i am one ofthe guys who met one of these bands which are passionated for their fans!

I'm proud to be able to get an interview down with the one and only White Fields!

Q: What was the reason for starting the band White Fields?
A: I guess it is as simple as that: We all wanted to make music and have all played in bands before we started White Fields in February 2010. For me it just seemed to be the perfect medium to deal with my situation at that point of time. Nevertheless we never expected it to become such an important part of all our lifes. Now we put so much energy and passion into this band- more than we ever could have imagined.

Q: Is there a reason, why you took this name? Tell us what it means for you.
A: The name is meant to describe a state of mind in a picture everyone can easily imagine. White Fields, for me personally stands for a lot of things: emptyness, calm, cold, despair, fear - a lot of other feelings i felt very bound to at the time we started White Fields and still do.

Q: Do you have known what kind of music you want to make, before starting or while starting the band?
A: We knew that we wanted to make hardcore in a way we didn't get to hear it in Coburg. We did not want breakdowns haunting breakdowns into breakdowns and we knew that we wanted to go more like in a melodic direction. When we started we wrote our first song as a four piece. And this one was way harder than everything we ever wrote afterwards. Then there was Severin who came from a local Indie-band and he really gave White Fields this special touch in it's sound... he later decided to leave for studying and Daniel jumped in on lead guitar. He fits perfectly into this band, but of course brings other influences. I think we still know which kind of music we want to make and I am glad to work with such great dudes... they really are able to bring their ideas to their instruments and that is something priceless.

Q: Explain your sound to us.
A: Catchy melodies, dark rythm, desperate vocals, stomping bass, loud drums - that is what it's said to be... we don't really care. This question is hard to answer.

Q: Is there a message to the listeners in the lyrics?
A: There is no real message i guess. It is more like a personal thing with the lyrics. I am glad when people say that they can relate to the things i say, but only a chosen few really know my story and what the songs mean for me personally. So if you find a piece of yourself in my lyrics, then this is pretty much it.

Q: What are the personal favorite bands of the members?
A:
Daniel: Lifetime, Basement.
Ferdi: Life Long Tragedy, The Carrier , LantlĂ´s, Fences, Deafheaven
Jonas: HISTORY, This Will Destroy You, Daylight
Helm: The Carrier, Lagwagon, Guns Up!
Julian: Lasting Traces, Brutality Will Prevail, Black Teeth

Q: Are your favorite bands also your influences?
A:
 Ferdi: sometimes.
Daniel: yes sir.
Jonas: no.
Helm: yes.

Q: Which bands are your band's influences?
A: Bands that play passionate live shows.

Q: Do you guys have other influences then bands?
A:
The personal feelings of each and every one of us, like frustration, loss, depression, anger... daily life is influence enough.

Q: Are there some bands you would like to recommend to us, that play a similar style to yours?

A. Please check out Empty Handed, Foxxes, Lasting Traces, Illusions and Fallacies. They are all young and good bands that deserve your support!

Q: What do you do in free time except the band White Fields?
A:
Daniel: playing in a band together with Helm called "evenworse", lifting weights, doing artworks @ xdudeofdeathx (he)artworks, skateboarding.
ferdi: handball, lifting weights, running, playing in another band with julian farmer.
Jonas: skateboarding, eeehm... and skateboarding
Helm: booking shows

Q: What things are coming up? Any news on new stuff, such as music, merch, and so on?
A: We will be featured on a sampler our mate Collin will release via Another Youth and we will play as many shows as possible, write new stuff and maybe sort out another little tour. Just stay tuned.

Q: What was your best gig so far?
A: We all agree when we say that Leipzig is the best place to play. No matter when.

Q: Which venue are you dreaming from? Are there bands you would really love to tour with?
A: We love to play small venues with really small or even no stages, we love it when things are getting sweaty and there is not much space left between band and audience. One band we really would love to tour with is Empty Handed, cause they are great people and we love to spend time with these dudes, but besides that we are open for everything. We just want to play as much as possible.

Q: Any messages to family, friends or fans left? Tell us!
A: Daniel says: “FUCK Karl Lagerfeld and FUCK Heidi Klum.“ Besides that, we would like to thank you for this interview and everyone that ever supported us in any way. Love.
